Aparna Godbole holds a Bachelor’s degree from India and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from UT Arlington. She has CCNA and CCNP certificates and is currently working on completing the CCNA Security certification.
Aparna started her career in India as Product Design Engineer, working on the Design & Development team for one of the leading cable manufacturing companies. She also gained valuable experience working on data analysis projects for her brother-in-law’s firm. Although Aparna started out working in the industry, she has always been passionate about teaching. Inspired by her mother, a Physics professor, Aparna became fascinated with the teaching profession at a young age.
Transitioning from the industry to the teaching profession, Aparna felt tutoring would be a great stepping stone for her new career path. She accepted a tutor position for the NISGTC DOL grant in January 2014. Aparna’s experience as a tutor has provided opportunities for her to work one-on-one with a diverse group of students catering to their different learning needs. Aparna states, “Satisfaction comes from helping students achieve their academic goals. That experience and the feedback received from students when they master skills and do well are very satisfying.” She enjoys the fact that tutoring also requires her to study the subject matter in greater detail. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, Aparna has gained valuable experience conducting Subnetting workshops and in-lab group tutoring for the grant.
"IT is an area where there will continuous developments at a very fast pace. It is very important to keep up-to-date and get certified. Industry certifications matter a lot, especially if you are seeking jobs."
Following the positive feedback and recommendations from students, Aparna was considered for a faculty position in Computer Network Engineering for Fall 2014. As an instructor, she incorporates ideas from the tutoring experience into her teaching style. Aparna plans to remain at Collin College and continue enhancing her experience as an instructor. She advises new IT students: “IT is an area where there will continuous developments at a very fast pace. It is very important to keep up-to-date and get certified. Industry certifications matter a lot, especially if you are seeking jobs.” She encourages her own students to start early, study regularly, and to seek out tutoring assistance if necessary.
Aparna resides in Plano with her husband Kaustubh, and their 8 year-old son Siddharth.
